Grigor Dimitrov enters the 2026 US Open first-round matchup against Alexei Popyrin with recent momentum after advancing through qualifying, securing straight-sets wins over Lorenzo Giustino and Timofey Skatov before a walkover in the final. The 35-year-old Bulgarian, ranked 137, brings extensive hard-court experience and a strong historical record at Grand Slams despite a lengthy injury layoff earlier in the season. Popyrin, ranked 130, arrives with a subpar 2026 record marked by inconsistency and mental health challenges, though he posted a strong run to the third round in Montreal and holds a 2-2 head-to-head edge on hard courts. Traders view Dimitrov as the clear favorite due to superior recent form and proven big-match resilience on outdoor hard, while Popyrin's upside rests on his powerful serve and prior US Open success.
