Game context

Alexander Zverev enters the US Open as the top seed and clear favorite in this first-round matchup after Jannik Sinner’s right-knee withdrawal opened the draw and following Zverev’s breakthrough Roland Garros title plus Wimbledon final appearance. The German holds a perfect 6-0 head-to-head record against Sonego, including straight-sets wins on hard courts, while boasting far superior recent results (46-13 season record) and a stronger hard-court baseline game. Sonego, ranked around No. 89 with a modest 12-15 record this year, brings aggressive serving but has never advanced past the second round at the US Open and enters off mixed hard-court form. Zverev’s experience on Arthur Ashe Stadium and consistent first-set starts further tilt trader consensus heavily toward the higher-ranked player, though Sonego’s power could force a competitive set.
