US Open ATP: Adolfo Vallejo vs Gael Monfils

Gael Monfils, ranked near 300 and in his announced final season at age 40, entered the US Open first-round matchup against world No. 60 Adolfo Vallejo with strong crowd support on his 40th birthday and 71st Grand Slam appearance. Vallejo, a 22-year-old Paraguayan making his hard-court major debut after a solid clay-court rise, lacked prior experience against the veteran showman and faced questions about handling New York pressure despite his ranking edge. Monfils posted a sub-.500 2026 record with limited hard-court success, yet his serve efficiency and flair created stylistic challenges on the fast surface. No prior head-to-head existed, leaving trader focus on experience versus youth and motivation in a closely watched opener.
