US Open WTA: Zeynep Sonmez vs Coco Gauff
Coco Gauff66
Zeynep Sonmez34Game context
Coco Gauff enters the 2026 US Open first round as the clear favorite against Zeynep Sonmez due to her dominant hard-court form, including a Cincinnati title where she dropped minimal games across six matches, and her proven US Open pedigree as the 2023 champion with consistent deep runs. Sonmez, ranked around No. 53 after a career-high near 48, brings improved consistency and some top-50 wins but limited Grand Slam experience beyond third-round appearances and thinner recent hard-court results. This is their first meeting, with Gauff holding a significant edge in ranking, surface record, and momentum heading into Arthur Ashe Stadium. Trader consensus reflects these gaps while acknowledging Sonmez's potential to extend rallies on the faster hard courts.
