Game context

The Houston Astros enter as slight road favorites against the New York Mets in the opener of their three-game series at Citi Field, reflecting trader consensus on Houston’s stronger 67-67 record and AL West lead compared with New York’s 60-74 mark and fifth-place NL East standing. Hunter Brown’s 3.51 ERA lines up favorably against Christian Scott’s 3.73 ERA, while the Astros’ league-leading 179 home runs and 31-6 mark in games without surrendering a homer provide a power edge. Multiple Mets injuries, including Juan Soto’s calf strain on the 10-day IL and day-to-day concerns for Bo Bichette, further tilt situational factors toward Houston despite both clubs posting middling results over their last 10 games. Late-August roster health and bullpen reliability remain key variables that could shift implied probabilities.
