Game context

Aleksandar Vukic, the higher-ranked Australian at approximately No. 95 with a career-high of No. 48, faces 20-year-old Japanese qualifier Rei Sakamoto (No. 157) in the US Open first round on outdoor hard courts. Vukic holds a 1-0 head-to-head edge from a 2025 Tokyo qualifying win but enters with inconsistent 2026 results and no prior main-draw victories at the tournament. Sakamoto arrives on strong momentum after three qualifying wins, including a 6-4, 7-6 victory over retiring Kei Nishikori that featured 19 aces, and has shown rapid ranking gains plus solid hard-court form. The matchup pits Vukic's experience against Sakamoto's youth, serving power, and recent form, with traders viewing the contest as competitive given the surface and both players' right-handed baselines.
