Marta Kostyuk67Game context
Marta Kostyuk enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear favorite, holding the No. 11 ranking and riding a strong 2026 campaign that includes a Madrid title, French Open and Wimbledon semifinals, and consistent hard-court results. She defeated Stephens 7-5, 7-5 in their only prior meeting during the Cincinnati third round on the same surface. Sloane Stephens, the 2017 US Open champion and wildcard entrant ranked No. 209, has shown signs of resurgence with back-to-back Cincinnati wins and a straight-sets first-round victory over Clara Tauson—her first Grand Slam match win in two years—while benefiting from home-crowd energy on Louis Armstrong Stadium. The American’s defensive style and experience could extend rallies, though Kostyuk’s superior recent form and head-to-head edge shape the prevailing trader consensus on the outcome.
