Ben Shelton enters the US Open second-round matchup against Hubert Hurkacz as the clear favorite, backed by his No. 9 ranking, strong 2026 form that includes multiple titles and a Canadian Open defense, and home-crowd support on Arthur Ashe Stadium. The 23-year-old American recovered from a first-set loss in round one to defeat Tallon Griekspoor and has reached at least the third round in each of his prior three main-draw appearances. Hurkacz, ranked No. 47 and a former top-six player, brings elite serving but limited recent success at Flushing Meadows, where he has never advanced past the second round in seven prior tries. The first-time matchup pits two big servers against each other on hard courts, with Shelton’s overall consistency and momentum positioning him as the market consensus leader.
