Game context

Alexander Zverev, the top seed and reigning French Open champion ranked No. 2, entered his US Open second-round matchup against No. 52 Quentin Halys as a heavy favorite following a grueling five-set first-round victory over Lorenzo Sonego that ended after 2 a.m. Zverev holds a 2-0 head-to-head edge in 2026, including a hard-court win in Miami, and maintains strong hard-court form with an 18-7 record. Halys, who defeated Facundo Diaz Acosta in four sets with 18 aces, benefits from three days of rest and has shown improved ranking trajectory, though his prior Grand Slam results remain limited. The hard-court setting at Arthur Ashe favors Zverev’s baseline power and experience, while Halys’s aggressive serving and recent form offer underdog potential in what traders viewed as a lopsided contest.
