Kei Nishikori, the 36-year-old former world No. 4 and 2014 US Open finalist playing his final Grand Slam season, faces 16-year-old American wildcard Michael Antonius in US Open qualifying round two on hard courts. Nishikori advanced from his opening match with a 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 win over Sebastian Ofner, showing resilience in the decider despite injury history. Antonius, ranked around No. 670 and fresh off a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Henry Searle, brings strong recent junior results including a Roland Garros boys' final appearance and early ITF titles. Nishikori's extensive ATP experience and hard-court pedigree create a clear edge in this best-of-three encounter, though Antonius's athleticism and home-crowd support introduce upset potential in the fast-paced qualifying format.
