James Duckworth531Game context
James Duckworth (ATP No. 71) and Yibing Wu (No. 113) meet in the US Open second round on outdoor hard courts, with no prior main-tour head-to-head. Duckworth advanced past higher-ranked Matteo Arnaldi after dropping the opening set, leveraging 16 aces and strong break-point conversion in a four-set win, while building solid recent hard-court results including a Winston-Salem semifinal run. Wu reached this stage by defeating Adam Walton in straight sets, showing improved baseline aggression and tiebreak composure after earlier injury-limited seasons. Duckworth’s higher ranking and serve volume contrast with Wu’s younger athleticism and 2026 consistency on hard, creating a closely matched contest where recent form and first-set resilience could shift implied probabilities.
