Jaime Faria6032Game context
Carlos Alcaraz enters this US Open second-round matchup as the heavy favorite against Jaime Faria, reflecting his status as defending champion, multiple-time major winner, and No. 2 seed returning from a four-month wrist injury layoff. Alcaraz looked sharp in a straight-sets first-round win over Roman Safiullin and holds a dominant hard-court record, while Faria, ranked around No. 70-72 after a career-high mark, arrives on the back of a five-set first-round victory over Jenson Brooksby and a prior Top-10 win over Ben Shelton in Cincinnati. This marks their first meeting, with Alcaraz’s superior experience, serve consistency, and baseline game expected to limit the Portuguese player’s aggressive style on Arthur Ashe Stadium hard courts. Recent form and the surface favor the Spaniard advancing, though Faria’s rising trajectory adds context for any competitive sets.
