US Open, Qualification WTA: Despina Papamichail vs Ekaterine Gorgodze

Game context
**Gorgodze enters the US Open qualifying second round as the slight favorite against Papamichail on hard courts, reflecting her higher ranking (No. 161 vs. No. 188), stronger recent form (8 wins in her last 10 matches), and solid hard-court results this summer.** Both players advanced from their Q1 matches on August 24-25, with Papamichail defeating Pigossi 7-5, 6-2 and Gorgodze overcoming seeded Kawa 3-6, 7-6(2), 6-2. Gorgodze has posted consistent results across recent ITF hard events, while Papamichail's 2026 record shows more inconsistency. Historical head-to-head favors Gorgodze (3-0), though prior matches occurred on clay. Serve and return metrics give Gorgodze marginal edges on second-serve points and breakpoint saving, factors that could influence the three-set outcome in this best-of-three qualifier.
