Janice Tjen43Game context
Janice Tjen enters as the clear favorite against Yulia Starodubtseva in the Monterrey Open second round on outdoor hard courts, backed by her WTA No. 35 ranking and No. 7 seeding versus the Ukrainian’s No. 74 spot. Tjen arrives with momentum after rallying past Dayana Yastremska in three sets, converting key break points and firing 12 aces on the surface where she holds a solid career edge. Starodubtseva ended a six-match skid by defeating Lilli Tagger in straight sets but owns a more modest 26-22 record this season and has struggled for consistency on hard courts recently. With no prior head-to-head meetings, traders weigh Tjen’s superior experience, serve efficiency, and tiebreak record against Starodubtseva’s potential to capitalize on any lapses in a competitive matchup.
