Game context

The Milwaukee Brewers hold an eight-game lead over the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central standings at 86-53 to 78-61, with the current four-game series at Wrigley Field carrying direct implications for the division race. Milwaukee bounced back from a 17-3 blowout loss with a 9-4 victory on September 1, powered by multi-hit games from Jackson Chourio, Brice Turang, William Contreras, and Joey Ortiz plus two-run homers from Christian Yelich and Ortiz. On September 2, ace right-hander Jacob Misiorowski (14-5, 1.73 ERA) faces left-hander David Peterson (7-7, 5.11 ERA), a matchup that highlights Milwaukee’s superior rotation depth and Misiorowski’s strong career results versus Chicago. The Cubs’ bullpen and defense have shown vulnerabilities in the series, while the Brewers’ recent form and road record position them as the consensus favorite among traders evaluating the remaining games.
