Game context

The Miami Marlins (70-69) enter this interleague series with a stronger overall profile than the Kansas City Royals (62-77), sitting 12.5 games back in the NL East wild-card race while Kansas City trails by 11.5 in the AL Central. Miami’s team ERA of 3.92 ranks among the league’s better marks, led by starters like Eury Pérez, contrasting with the Royals’ 4.69 ERA. Recent form shows the Marlins splitting recent road contests but holding a slight edge in head-to-head results, while Kansas City has posted a 7-3 stretch yet remains hampered by multiple injuries to key arms and position players. Home/away splits favor the Royals at Kauffman Stadium, though Miami’s higher stolen-base totals and consistent hitting from Otto Lopez and Javier Sanoja could pressure Kansas City’s defense and bullpen in what remains a competitive matchup.
