Game context

The Kansas City Royals enter Wednesday’s contest at Rogers Centre riding a nine-game winning streak—their longest since 2017—after a 5-3 victory in the series opener that featured effective five-inning work from Seth Lugo and timely hitting from Salvador Perez. At 59-74 and last in the AL Central, Kansas City still trails the playoff line by eight games but has outscored opponents by 24 runs over its last 10 contests. The Toronto Blue Jays, 64-69 and three games out of the AL wild-card spot, sit at 33-34 at home yet have dropped four of six and placed several starters on the injured list, including Shane Bieber. Randy Dobnak (2-1, 1.58 ERA) opposes a Toronto bullpen game headlined by Spencer Miles (5-2, 3.02 ERA). Multiple Royals position players also carry day-to-day designations, adding uncertainty to lineup construction for both clubs.
