Game context

The Colorado Rockies (51-81) visit the Washington Nationals (62-72) on August 26 at Nationals Park amid a four-game series. Both clubs sit well out of playoff contention, with the Rockies holding the worst record in the NL West and the Nationals fourth in the East. Tanner Gordon (0-4, 5.75 ERA) starts for Colorado against Matt Waldron (1-2, 7.54 ERA) for Washington; elevated ERAs and bullpen concerns point toward elevated run totals. Colorado snapped a seven-game skid with a 3-1 win the prior night but owns a 24-43 road mark and the majors' highest team ERA. Washington leads the season series 3-2, benefits from home-field advantage despite its own 28-37 home record, and features stronger power production led by CJ Abrams. Extensive injury lists on both sides, including multiple starters and key position players, further complicate lineup stability and pitching depth entering the matchup.
