Game context

The Chicago Cubs (76-57) visit the Arizona Diamondbacks (70-63) at Chase Field on August 26, with left-handers Matthew Boyd (8-2, 4.15 ERA) opposing Eduardo Rodriguez (13-4, 2.61 ERA) in a key late-season matchup. Rodriguez’s strong command and strikeout rate give Arizona a clear edge on the mound, though both clubs carry extensive injured lists that thin their rotations and lineups—most notably Ketel Marte and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. for the Diamondbacks, plus Dansby Swanson and Matt Shaw for the Cubs. Pete Crow-Armstrong’s power surge anchors Chicago’s offense, while Arizona relies on home-field production from Gabriel Moreno and Nolan Arenado. Both teams enter on similar 5-5 stretches and remain in the NL wild-card hunt, heightening the stakes of recent form, bullpen availability, and any late scratches.
