US Open, Qualification ATP: Zhizhen Zhang vs Rei Sakamoto

Game context
Zhizhen Zhang and Rei Sakamoto enter this US Open qualifying clash with nearly identical ATP rankings near 158–165 on outdoor hard courts. The 29-year-old Zhang, a former top-30 player returning from shoulder issues that limited his 2025 campaign, holds a 6-11 record this season and brings greater Grand Slam qualifying experience. Sakamoto, the 20-year-old Japanese prospect with a career-high ranking of 148 achieved in June, has posted early ATP wins and Challenger success while showing improved consistency on hard. Their similar profiles and lack of prior head-to-head meetings leave the outcome dependent on current form, serving efficiency, and ability to handle the fast qualifying conditions in New York.
