US Open, Qualification WTA: Julieta Pareja vs Iryna Shymanovich

Game context
Julieta Pareja, the 17-year-old American ranked No. 284, enters with strong recent momentum after a decisive 6-3, 6-1 upset of ninth-seeded Kayla Day in the opening qualifying round on hard courts. The wildcard recipient has posted multiple ITF titles and solid 2026 results on the surface, showing improved consistency at the higher level. Iryna Shymanovich, the 29-year-old Belarusian at No. 191, advanced past Rebeka Masarova in three sets and brings greater experience plus a career-high ranking near 150, though her 2026 win rate hovers near 50 percent with mixed results against stronger opposition. The second-round qualifier pits Pareja’s youth and home-soil form against Shymanovich’s ranking edge in a match that could hinge on baseline consistency and break-point conversion.
