Game context
The Chicago Blackhawks enter the 2026-27 NHL season without star center Connor Bedard following his July shoulder surgery, with a projected November return that shifts early offensive responsibility to players like Frank Nazar and newcomer Bowen Byram. The Minnesota Wild, anchored by Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy, aim to build on recent regular-season success against Chicago, including multiple 2025-26 victories. Both teams face roster adjustments ahead of September preseason matchups and the expanded 84-game schedule, with Wild depth and goaltending stability contrasting Blackhawks reliance on youth development during Bedard's absence. Recent form, travel, and injury recoveries will shape initial head-to-head outcomes.
