Game context

The Houston Astros (68-67), holding a slim AL West lead, visit the New York Mets (60-75) at Citi Field with Nolan McLean (9-8, 3.21 ERA) starting against Houston's opener Bennett Sousa and potential bulk innings from Cristian Javier. McLean's recent stretch of strong outings contrasts with the Astros' patchwork staff and offense that has struggled lately against right-handers. Key absences include Juan Soto (calf, possible activation) and other Mets arms on the IL, while Houston deals with season-ending issues for Carlos Correa and additional elbow/knee placements. Recent series results and the Astros' push for playoff positioning versus the Mets' late-season positioning frame the matchup as a test of form, bullpen depth, and home advantage at Citi Field.
