Game context
Both the Colorado Rockies and San Francisco Giants sit near the bottom of the NL West with records around 49-73 and 50-71, respectively, and have long been eliminated from playoff contention. The Rockies enter the August 15 game at Oracle Park off a 5-2 road win the previous night behind Kyle Freeland, though they carry one of the league's highest injury totals and a sub-.400 road winning percentage.
