Game context
The Chicago Cubs enter this three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals with a 72-51 record, sitting third in the NL Central and firmly in playoff contention, while the Cardinals sit at 61-61 and trail by 13.5 games. Chicago took the opener 3-0 on August 14 at Wrigley Field behind strong pitching and has posted a 36-24 home mark. St. Louis, coming off a loss in that contest, starts Matthew Liberatore on August 15 against Cubs right-hander Clay Holmes. Both clubs carry bullpen injuries, but the Cubs’ superior overall form, divisional standing, and home-field edge shape the current trader consensus around their implied probabilities.
