Game context

The Miami Marlins (62-61), positioned third in the NL East and within striking distance of the wild card, face the Cincinnati Reds (59-62) at Great American Ball Park in a series featuring middling offenses and inconsistent pitching. Marlins starter Ryan Gusto carries a 4.78 ERA into the matchup against Reds right-hander Brady Singer (5-11, 4.66 ERA), both of whom have posted elevated walk rates and limited strikeout upside this season. Miami’s recent form includes a narrow loss in the series opener, while Cincinnati benefits from home-field factors and a slightly more reliable bullpen. Marlins injuries, including infielder Kyle Stowers on the IL with a hamstring strain, limit lineup depth, whereas the Reds deal with long-term absences such as Hunter Greene. The contest hinges on which staff limits damage in a low-scoring environment typical of these clubs.
