Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Cleveland Guardians

Game context
The Arizona Diamondbacks visit the Cleveland Guardians for a three-game series beginning July 31 at Progressive Field, with both clubs battling for wild-card positioning in their respective leagues. Cleveland enters amid a recent offensive slump and a five-game losing streak that included shutouts against Tampa Bay, though the club has shown resilience in earlier July wins over Minnesota and Pittsburgh. Arizona arrives after splitting a four-game set in Pittsburgh, where its bullpen and timely hitting produced back-to-back victories. Starting pitching will be pivotal, with both rotations dealing with recent inconsistency and the trade deadline adding roster uncertainty. Home-field advantage and recent head-to-head trends favor the Guardians in the opener, yet Arizona’s road form and bullpen depth keep the matchup competitive.
