Lorenzo Musetti enters this US Open second-round matchup as the clear market favorite, reflecting his status as the No. 13 seed and world No. 14 against world No. 123 Dane Sweeny. The Italian has shown positive signs in his return from extended injury issues that limited him after a strong Australian Open quarterfinal run, including a straight-sets win over Arthur Fery in the first round and recent hard-court quarterfinal appearances. Sweeny, an Australian wildcard, arrives with momentum from his own first-round upset of Corentin Moutet but lacks extensive main-tour experience and faces a significant gap in ranking, consistency, and Grand Slam pedigree. On outdoor hard courts, Musetti’s baseline game and recent fitness gains align with historical patterns favoring higher-ranked players in early rounds, though Sweeny’s motivation and potential for extended rallies introduce some variance
