Frances Tiafoe, the No. 11 seed ranked No. 12, enters this US Open second-round match on hard courts with a substantial edge in ranking, Grand Slam experience, and overall ATP results compared to 20-year-old qualifier Rei Sakamoto, ranked No. 157. Tiafoe reached multiple deep US Open runs in prior years and arrived after a strong hard-court stretch that included a Cincinnati final, though he endured a five-set opener against Martin Damm. Sakamoto, a fast-rising Japanese prospect and former junior major champion, earned his main-draw spot by defeating Kei Nishikori in qualifying and secured his first Grand Slam main-draw victory in five sets over Aleksandar Vukic, demonstrating big serving and resilience. This marks their first meeting, with Tiafoe’s superior experience and recent form shaping trader expectations on the hard-court surface.
