National Bank Open: Casper Ruud vs Joao Fonseca

Game context
Casper Ruud faces 19-year-old João Fonseca in the third round of the 2026 National Bank Open on hard courts in Montreal, a rematch of their French Open encounter where the Brazilian prevailed in five sets. Fonseca arrives with strong momentum after defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets and holds the 1-0 head-to-head edge, relying on an aggressive forehand game and willingness to dictate rallies. Ruud secured a dominant 6-1, 6-2 win over Juan Manuel Cerundolo for his second tour-level victory since early June and sits at 8-7 on hard courts this season, though he has shown inconsistency on the surface. Fonseca’s rapid rise, including a deep run at Roland Garros, contrasts with Ruud’s veteran experience and prior Masters 1000 results in Canada, creating a matchup where recent form and stylistic advantages on hard courts heavily influence trader assessments of the outcome.
