National Bank Open: Mirra Andreeva vs Leylah Fernandez

Game context
Mirra Andreeva enters this National Bank Open third-round matchup as the clear favorite, buoyed by her 2026 Roland Garros title, three singles crowns this season, and a 37-11 record that underscores elite hard-court consistency. The fifth seed dispatched Karolina Pliskova in straight sets and leads the head-to-head 3-1, including a straight-sets win over Fernandez in the Madrid quarterfinals earlier this year. Leylah Fernandez, ranked No. 34, benefits from strong home support in Toronto after a dominant second-round victory, yet her 12-19 mark reflects inconsistent results outside select clay-court surges. Recent form, ranking differential, and surface familiarity position Andreeva to control rallies, though Fernandez’s aggressive baseline game and crowd energy could extend points on the hard courts.
