National Bank Open: Alexei Popyrin vs Thiago Agustin Tirante

Game context
Alexei Popyrin faces Thiago Agustin Tirante for the first time in the third round of the 2026 National Bank Open on outdoor hard courts in Montreal. Popyrin brings strong historical ties to the event as the 2024 champion and enters with notable Masters-level experience, though his recent results show inconsistency with multiple losses in prior weeks. Tirante, ranked around No. 65 after a career-high of 52 earlier in 2026, arrives with a 19-12 record this season and momentum from strong performances on the ATP Tour, including recent wins that advanced him through qualifying or early rounds. Surface familiarity, physical freshness after the tournament schedule, and the absence of direct head-to-head data shape the matchup dynamics heading into the contest.
