US Open, Qualification ATP: Lorenzo Giustino vs Grigor Dimitrov

Game context
Grigor Dimitrov enters the US Open qualifying first round as the clear favorite against Lorenzo Giustino due to his higher ATP ranking (around 137-140) and extensive Grand Slam experience, including a 2019 US Open semifinal run. The 35-year-old Bulgarian arrives on outdoor hard courts after a mixed 2026 campaign marked by injuries and an 8-12 or worse win-loss record, including a Cincinnati first-round exit, though he reached the Wimbledon round of 16. Giustino, ranked No. 201 and coming off recent Challenger clay matches with a retirement in the Sion semifinals, has limited success on hard courts and no prior head-to-head history. The matchup highlights the significant ranking and pedigree gap on a surface favoring Dimitrov’s game.
