Yulia Starodubtseva10Game context
Elise Mertens, the No. 2 seed and WTA No. 24, holds a substantial edge over unseeded Yuliia Starodubtseva (No. 74) in the Monterrey Open quarterfinal on outdoor hard courts. Mertens brings extensive main-draw hard-court experience (over 200 wins) and a stronger recent baseline despite mixed hard-court results in Toronto and Cincinnati. Starodubtseva, who snapped a six-match losing streak with straight-set wins over Lilli Tagger and seventh-seeded Janice Tjen, shows improved form and break-point conversion in Monterrey but faces a steep experience gap on this surface. Their head-to-head record is limited, with trader consensus reflecting Mertens' ranking, consistency, and recovery edge heading into the match.
