Mubadala Citi DC Open: Naomi Osaka vs Alexandra Eala

Game context
Naomi Osaka enters the Mubadala Citi DC Open semifinal as the higher-ranked veteran with multiple Grand Slam titles, while Alexandra Eala arrives on strong momentum after a breakout 2026 campaign that includes a 30-18 record and multiple Top 10 wins. Eala advanced by defeating Leylah Fernandez and Zheng Qinwen before upsetting Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals for her sixth such victory this season, setting up her first meeting with Osaka on outdoor hard courts. The 21-year-old Filipino has shown improved consistency and tiebreak prowess, though Osaka's experience in high-stakes WTA 500 events and serve-heavy game could prove decisive if the match extends. No major injuries have been reported for either player ahead of the August 1 clash.
