Game context
The San Diego Padres (67-59), competitive in the NL West playoff picture, visit the New York Mets (57-69) at Citi Field for an August 19 afternoon game. Michael King (8-8, 3.41 ERA) starts opposite spot-starter Robert Stock (0-2, 6.57 ERA), giving San Diego a clear edge in the matchup. The Mets captured the series opener 2-1 and carry momentum from a recent winning streak, though key injuries limit their lineup, including Juan Soto’s calf issue. The Padres also manage multiple pitching absences on the IL but benefit from stronger overall depth and recent form. Home/road splits and bullpen reliability remain central factors in this interleague contest.
