Game context

The Philadelphia Phillies (74-60, second in the NL East) enter the series against the Los Angeles Angels (52-83, fifth in the AL West) with strong recent momentum, having gone 8-2 over their last 10 games while outscoring opponents behind consistent offense from Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, and Brandon Marsh. The Angels have dropped four straight and seven of their last 10, hampered by a thin roster featuring multiple injuries including Nolan Schanuel (side), Gustavo Campero (hamstring), and several pitchers on the IL. Starting pitching favors the visitors in spots, with Zack Wheeler and Cristopher Sanchez lined up against weaker Angels options, though Andrew Painter's inconsistent outings introduce variance. Home-field play at Angel Stadium offers limited counterbalance given the Angels' 29-39 home mark and overall defensive and bullpen vulnerabilities.
