Chicago Cubs vs. Arizona Diamondbacks

Game context
The Chicago Cubs enter the three-game series at Chase Field with a 75-56 record, positioned ahead of the 69-62 Arizona Diamondbacks in the playoff race. Chicago holds the stronger overall form and has performed well on the road recently, while Arizona battles for a National League Wild Card spot after a key victory that kept those hopes alive. Probable starters Kevin Gausman against Merrill Kelly highlight a potential Cubs edge on the mound, though both carry elevated ERAs this season. The Diamondbacks have dealt with injuries including Michael Soroka landing on the injured list and ongoing concerns with Ketel Marte, alongside Chicago missing pieces like Matt Shaw. Extreme heat at the venue and the tight NL standings add context for how recent roster moves and bullpen depth could influence outcomes.
