Grigor Dimitrov enters the Cincinnati Open first-round matchup against Sebastian Baez as a wildcard and former champion returning from a recent leg injury that prompted his withdrawal from Los Cabos. At age 35 and ranked around 140, the Bulgarian has shown rebuilding form with a Wimbledon round-of-16 appearance, but fitness remains the central uncertainty on outdoor hard courts. Baez, ranked near 50 with a 21-17 record in 2026, arrives after reaching the Montreal second round and earlier clay success, though his longer-term hard-court results have been inconsistent. The higher-ranked Argentine holds the edge in current form and consistency, while Dimitrov’s experience and motivation as a local favorite could narrow the gap if he is fully fit; traders view the contest as competitive with Baez holding the implied edge.
