Cincinnati Open: Xiyu Wang vs Elina Svitolina

Game context
Elina Svitolina enters the Cincinnati Open round of 32 as the clear favorite against Xiyu Wang, reflecting her No. 9 ranking, 40-12 record in 2026, and recent titles in Rome and Auckland alongside consistent deep runs on hard courts. Wang, ranked 108 with a strong 32-8 mark this season and a notable upset of Leylah Fernandez to reach this stage, brings momentum from her French Open fourth-round appearance and left-handed game but faces a significant gap in experience and current form. The matchup on outdoor hard courts favors Svitolina’s baseline consistency and return game, while Wang will need to capitalize on any early opportunities or unforced errors from the veteran. Head-to-head history and ranking differentials further underpin trader expectations for the higher seed to advance.
