Game context

New York Mets (51-66) enter the August 8 matchup against the Pittsburgh Pirates (57-61) on a four-game winning streak, including a 6-4 victory the prior night powered by homers from Marcus Semien and contributions from rookie outfielder Carson Benge. The Mets, fifth in the NL East, have leaned on recent offensive production and roster adjustments following their seller status at the August 3 trade deadline. The Pirates, fifth in the NL Central and on a four-game skid, face questions around pitching depth and lineup consistency amid their slump. Official injury reports note Benge’s exit with left wrist soreness, while probable starters and bullpen usage will shape late-inning scenarios. Both clubs carry sub-.500 records with limited playoff implications.
