Game context
Houston Astros (60-58) enter the series at Petco Park holding a slim AL West lead while the Padres (61-57) remain within striking distance in the NL West, setting up a tightly contested interleague matchup between two clubs with comparable records and recent form. Multiple injuries shape roster decisions, including Houston’s Carlos Correa (60-day IL, ankle surgery), Brice Matthews (knee), and Mike Burrows (elbow) plus San Diego absences such as Miguel Andujar (wrist) and others on the injured list, thinning both lineups and bullpens. Starting pitching depth and home-field factors at Petco figure prominently in trader assessments, as does the Astros’ ongoing West Coast road trip and the clubs’ head-to-head history.
