Game context
The Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals, longtime NL Central rivals, enter their next series with the Cardinals holding recent momentum after a dominant early-July sweep highlighted by a franchise-record 17-1 rout at Wrigley Field on July 3. Chicago has struggled in its most recent outings, including a 5-1 home loss to Detroit on July 22, while both clubs navigate the stretch run ahead of the August 3 trade deadline. Pitching matchups, bullpen depth, and any roster adjustments will shape outcomes in this high-volume divisional series, where home/away splits and head-to-head trends often influence implied probabilities reflected in trader consensus.
