Game context
The Chicago Cubs (74-56) enter the finale of their three-game series at T-Mobile Park trailing 0-2 after back-to-back one-run losses to the Seattle Mariners (62-68). Seattle’s recent walk-off wins featured Randy Arozarena’s leadoff homer, defensive gem, and two-run blast in the August 22 contest, while the Cubs’ bullpen faltered late. Chicago’s lineup is further thinned by infielder Dansby Swanson and outfielder Matt Shaw on the injured list, though ace Shota Imanaga takes the mound against Bryan Woo. The Mariners sit three games out in the AL West with momentum and home advantage, yet the Cubs retain the superior season record and face a favorable matchup in the series rubber game.
