Game context

Adam Walton holds the recent edge over higher-ranked Ignacio Buse after defeating the Peruvian 6-4 6-3 on hard courts in Cincinnati nine days earlier, marking Walton's only prior win in their head-to-head. Walton arrives with momentum from a straight-sets victory over Jesper de Jong the previous day, while Buse enters on a three-match losing streak and has yet to secure an ATP main-draw hard-court win in 2026. The third seed has compiled a 17-16 record this season but shows limited success on the surface, contrasting Walton's stronger recent hard-court results despite his lower ranking around No. 93. Buse's nine-day rest may help offset fatigue, yet the hard-court matchup and current form point to a closely contested second-round encounter at the Winston-Salem Open.
