Learner Tien23Game context
Both American players arrive in strong form for this National Bank Open semifinal on outdoor hard courts, with Shelton holding the higher ranking and title-defense experience while Tien has posted a 2-0 head-to-head edge, including a three-set victory in Indian Wells earlier in 2026. Tien enters on a four-match winning streak through the draw, having dispatched established names like Monfils and Paul, and continues climbing the rankings with aggressive baseline play and improved consistency. Shelton, meanwhile, has extended his strong recent run at the tournament with efficient victories, relying on his powerful serve and athleticism. The matchup pits Shelton’s experience and firepower against Tien’s momentum and tactical edge on the surface, creating a competitive semifinal where recent results and physical freshness will shape the outcome.
