Ben Shelton enters the US Open first-round matchup against Tallon Griekspoor as the heavy favorite, buoyed by his recent Montreal title defense where he dropped no sets and posted dominant hard-court results including wins over top-30 players. The No. 9-ranked American’s elite left-handed serve, high ace totals, and strong hard-court record this season contrast with Griekspoor’s 12-17 mark, recent injury concerns, and limited success against top competition in best-of-five Grand Slam formats. Their first career meeting on outdoor hard courts at Arthur Ashe favors Shelton’s power game and home-crowd momentum, though Griekspoor’s Montreal upset of Alexander Zverev underscores his baseline resilience when healthy.
