US Open, Qualification ATP: Luka Pavlovic vs Juan Pablo Varillas

Game context
Luka Pavlovic enters the US Open qualifying first round against Juan Pablo Varillas ranked No. 207 to Varillas’s No. 236, with both players holding comparable 2026 win-loss records near .500. The Frenchman, who reached the French Open main draw earlier this year after strong Challenger results, leads their head-to-head 1-0 after a three-set victory on clay in 2025. Varillas, a former top-60 player with more experience on the tour, has posted solid recent Challenger performances but limited hard-court exposure this season. The outdoor hard-court setting at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center favors baseline consistency and serve effectiveness, areas where Pavlovic’s recent activity could provide a marginal edge in what remains a tightly matched encounter between similarly ranked competitors.
