Taylor Townsend6Game context
Belinda Bencic enters the National Bank Open third-round matchup against Taylor Townsend as the higher-ranked player at No. 14 with a 23-9 singles record in 2026, including a strong Wimbledon run and a straight-sets victory over Sloane Stephens in the opening round in Toronto. Townsend, primarily a doubles standout with multiple WTA 1000 titles this season, has posted a 15-10 singles mark highlighted by recent wins over seeded players like Marie Bouzkova and Tereza Valentova on the same hard-court surface. Both competitors arrive on solid recent form, with Bencic’s experience and consistency positioning her as the consensus favorite in trader pricing, while Townsend’s aggressive baseline game and ability to compete against higher-ranked opponents create realistic upset potential on outdoor hard courts.
