National Bank Open: Aryna Sabalenka vs Shuai Zhang

Game context
Aryna Sabalenka enters this National Bank Open third-round matchup on Toronto's outdoor hard courts as the clear favorite, backed by her world No. 1 ranking and 36-6 record in 2026 that includes titles at Indian Wells, Miami, and Brisbane. The Belarusian has extended a 13-match hard-court winning streak with straight-sets victories in her opening rounds, showcasing consistent baseline power and serve dominance. Shuai Zhang, a 37-year-old veteran ranked outside the top 50, advanced with an upset over Jelena Ostapenko but carries an 18-21 singles mark this season and limited success against elite opponents. Sabalenka holds a perfect 4-0 head-to-head edge, including multiple dominant sets on hard. Surface conditions and Zhang's recent form offer slim upset potential, though Sabalenka's superior recent results and physical edge shape trader consensus around her advancement.
